Columbia Icefield Series - I was very grateful to have a friend working as a glacier guide last summer. Even getting to the Icefield is magic. After road tripping along one of the most scenic highways on the planet, the Icefield Parkway, I began my guided day hike across the Athabasca Glacier. The first two photos were taken not too far from our glacier lunchtime stop. An epic picnic spot, with Mount Andromeda towering overhead whilst being able to back over the icy terrain we had just scaled. The Icefall of the Athabasca glacier seemed to change with every shot I took, although always impressively dramatic. The third photo in the Icefield series shows what is technically called a supraglacial lake, although a tiny one it was still big enough for some of the group to strip off and take a (very quick) swim in!
Banff - Bow River
After spending four winter seasons and one summer living in Alberta, it really feels like a second home for me now. Although I love playing in the mountains for winter, the summer living in Canmore and working in Banff, being out on the River Bow everyday was incredible. Both Banff photos were taken whilst I was on shift at the Canoe Club. The first was at dusk right after we packed the canoes away. It was a scorcher that day, so me and my colleague had to go for a quick dip in the glacial waters of the Bow to cool off. A group of Elk (called Wapiti by First Nations, meaning White Rump) came to join us. Such a perfect end to the day. The second, looking up the river you can see a rainbow which I love the look of with the colourful kayaks in the foreground. I'm so grateful to of had the best summer experience learning how to canoe, kayak and getting to guide tourists along the river, sharing my new found local wildlife knowledge with the hope of spotting some Elk, Bald Eagles, Beavers, Muskrats and the elusive Coyote and Black Bears along the way.
Blue River - Autumn Eleanor Lake I spent nearly five months in this town of about 200 people, on the highway between Jasper and Kamloops. It's so much more than just a place to stop for gas. I worked at Mike Wiegele's Helicopter Skiing. Yes, there's no snow and definitively no skiing in summer. Guests book in to stay at the incredible log cabins on site, which backs onto Eleanor Lake. I took this photo one early fall morning although the lake in the summer was my favourite part of Blue River. A summer of relaxing on it's man made sandy beach, jumping off the dock and canoeing or paddle boarding across the lake made for a beautiful British Columbia summer.
