Vietnam - Lanterns in Ho Chi Minh city I had only planned to be in Asia for a week, but being so blown away by the culture and by the people, it turned into a 5 week trip through Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand.
This wall of lanterns greeted us at the front of the restaurant, which after following a sketchy back alley and up a dark flight of concrete stairs, was a welcome sight. We had arrived at an awesome but unassuming little rooftop restaurant in the heart of the city, where I had a delicious meal with some new found hostel friends.
Singapore - Gardens by the Bay So, I'm super into Formula One racing and in 2017 I had the opportunity to visit Singapore and see the full racing weekend. To see the racing up close along with the electric atmosphere around the circuit, has been one of my absolute high points.
My first evening in the city I went to see the Gardens by the Bay Light Show. You can sit on the cooling grass beneath the giant steel tree structures, which as the sun goes down, come to life with music and lights. A really magical experience.
Thailand - Fishing at Sunset around Phi Phi Island My tour had departed Phi Phi Island late afternoon, so we could watch the awesome sunset out on the ocean in a traditional Thai longtail boat. We came across the fishing boat, offering a silhouette against the bright pink sky. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we put on our snorkels, jumped into the water and were met with the ocean sparkling with blue light, coming from the bioluminescent plankton.
Galapagos - Santa Cruz Island I was fortunate to visit the Galapagos Islands back in 2014. Before venturing off on a four day nature cruise around the islands, I spent a couple of days on Santa Cruz. Day times were spent checking out the white sand beaches at Tortuga Bay, seeing the Giant Tortoise at the Charles Darwin research center and watching the sea lions bask in the sunshine on the shore. At night, I would wander along the dock, which had been lit up illuminating the sea life below the surface and being lucky enough to capture this squadron of Manta Rays.
Costa Rica - Ostional Wildlife Refuge, Nicoya Peninsula Whilst working at a hostel for six weeks, in a idyllic beach town called Samara, I had some amazing experiences. Making Costa Rica my favourite Central American country. One of those experiences happened a week before the new moon, on a mile long stretch of volcanic black sand at Ostional, where Oliver Ridley turtles came onto the beach at sunset to dig holes and lay their eggs. The photo shows the turtles flipper marks indented in the sand.
Finland - "In The Middle of Nowhere" Sallatunturi, Finnish Lapland I lived here for three months as a sole rep, whilst working for Crystal Ski in 2016. It was such a special winter experience living in the arctic circle, I even had my own little cabin. I got to try out everything that Salla had to offer, from snowmobiling, husky rides, Santa visits and skiing all the awesome terrain, plus when you have epic views like this from the summit and beautiful sunsets nearly everyday, I totally fell in love with it!
